I notice that most people forget about stretching. Stretching is just as important as cardio and weight training. All three work together in different ways. I personally try to stretch everyday especially, in the morning. I personally love the way I feel after stretching.
According to the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy, To increase ROM, all types of stretching are effective, although PNF-type stretching may be more effective for immediate gains.
Here are a few benefits of stretching
Improves mobility - This means that you will be able to move better. Exercising in general will feel better because you won't feel restricted by tight muscles. Flexibility enables the body to move properly.
Prevent injuries - There is a higher risk of injury when your muscles are tight. Approximately 8 out of 10 people suffer from chronic lower back pain at some point in life. One of the best ways to prevent back pain is by performing strengthening and stretching exercises 2-3 times per week.
Improves blood flow and circulation - Regular stretching enhances transportation of oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
Improved health - Performing stretches can assist in reducing blood pressure and heart rate. It has also been documented to reduce chronic joint pain.
Stretching and your posture
Most jobs allow us to sit at a desk. One of the worst things you can do is sit for hours and hours every day. This is horrible for our posture. Tight shoulders and hips equal bad posture.
