Semi-Private Training - also known as SPT, or small group training (SGT) - is a fantastic and increasingly popular way of achieving your ultimate health and fitness goals. Over the last few years the terms SPT and SGT have both become hot property in small exercise studios and box gyms alike.
The reality is that people these days are starting to realise there are major benefits of taking on personalised workouts - no bodies are the same, after all. Plus, of course, the more individual attention you can get from your trainer, the better.
You can take it from an experienced Personal Trainer that these benefits work both ways, too. When working with clients in a large group, it’s hard to focus in on each person’s mentalities, fears and views - many people are scared of being in the spotlight and can often feel intimidated. WIth SPT and SGT, it’s possible to get much better, individualised results at a quicker pace than when you are taking large, popular classes. And giving you those result is exactly what makes a good personal trainer happy.
Plus, it’s worth considering the price benefits of doing SPT or SGT. Not everyone can afford the expense of one-on-one training sessions the two or three times a week you need them for maximum impact. But in these semi-private sessions, that cost is split across the group, giving you all the attention you need while keeping down the cost. With this in mind, let’s take a look at five of the key benefits of SPT - let’s get started right away.
First and foremost, the obvious advantage of SPT sessions is that they are far more affordable in comparison to one-on-one training. I work with a maximum of three clients per session, so you are effectively doing a class for a third of the cost it would be for a one-to-one session. When you bear in mind that I recommend either one or two sessions a week, this could save you hundreds of dollars each month.
2. Visible results
Being part of a SPT group is a transformative experience. You are lead by a personal trainer who has the knowledge, skills and tools you need to make positive changes to your body, and gain the confidence you have always wanted.
3. The ultimate in motivation
It’s easy to hide when you train in a large group or alone in a busy gym. But by training in a semi private group, it can really give you the motivating kick you need to give yourself, even those times you are feeling down. It’s no just your trainer that can help, either. You will find, there is a huge amount of support and the camaraderie in the group that will lift you towards your goals.
Again, it works in two different ways, depending on your personality. For the competitive types, small group work is a great way to measure yourself and inspire you to work harder. Equally, if you are a little on the shy side, you can expect a whole bunch of encouragement from your peer group as you progress.
4. More time to spend with your trainer
Group exercise classes in gyms aren’t tailored to your needs - how can they be when so many people attend them? Ultimately, this usually results in the instructor being unable to help all participants.
Another issue is that these sessions are usually planned a long time in advance - and rarely change. You might end up doing the same set of exercise week after week. However, with SPT sessions of only three people, your trainer will be able to spend more time adjusting your workouts to your needs, checking your progress, helping you with your form, and ensuring you are on the right track.
5. The camaraderie
The beauty of SPT classes is that you will be part of a team and never walk your path on your own. It can be tough starting on a new journey alone, and there will be periods when you feel like giving up. But the sense of camaraderie you will experience from your team mates will help you through the tough times. If you surround yourself with people who are aiming for similar goals, it will motivate you to work through those barriers and keep going forward.
